I was recently linked to a video about the Board of Education for the State of Alabama continuing to add a statement about the “controversy” of evolution. So lets clarify some stances, it is the belief of those behind The Amateur Scientist that Science Education should teach the science as it is understood and practiced by the rest of the world.
This is not about being anti-Christian or going against any religion or religious group. But Science must stand on its own to explain the workings of the world and the universe in a self contained context. When you add in deities that get to violate the rules as they please you are no longer dealing with a science you are dealing with futility, so science sets out to explain the world as if there is no god. Its not to disprove the existence of a one true god or prove their existence either it is simply explain how the universe works in a predictable manner that can be used by anyone at any time.
Evolution in particular is absolutely vital to understanding biology, especially why the vast majority of terrestrial vertebrates no matter their final shape share so many body features, this is where using the concept of Occam’s Razor Evolution is a single assumption where to believe in intelligent design by an almighty creator suggests they were not very creative and I would take it as a bit of an insult personally.
